i can taste it, too!!

So I have something shameful to admit.

I really dislike Christina Aguilera. (No that wasn't the shameful part. although as a 'mo i know that i'm expected to love her and shit...) I have never liked her very much. I think she, like most singers today, does too much- vocal acrobatic kinda shit... I like people who can just sing a song, simply and beautifully. So the other day, when I saw the episode of FAMILY GUY where Peter is her manager & complains that she offends all five senses, including his sense of taste (Peter: "You know how sometimes something smells so bad that you can taste it?" Xtina: "I can taste it, too!") I was laughing my ass off, because she really does put me off that much.

And then X forced me to watch the rest of the MTV Movie Awards. I had wanted to watch because a singer that I have a LOT of respect for, someone who can sing with style and verve and blow you away when you see her live, Holly Palmer, is currently singing with the group Gnarls Barkley, who performed at the show. Now, I think I might have said recently that it sort of bums me out that Gnarls Barkley is getting all this credit, all this play, for something that I find incredibly underwhelming and that Holly is pretty much "oohing" and "ahhing" in the background (often in ridiculous costumes like, towels or rebel fighter uniform-including helmet) when her music is something special & she really deserves to be the one in the spotlight... ok ok i'm bitter and need to realize what an incredible opportunity it is for her, so we'll move on. ANYway after watching the performance, X made me watch the rest of the award show (did I mention that he loves Jessica Alba? He does.) It was pretty ridiculous, as the MTV Movie Awards usually is. I felt like Fiona Apple, wanting to shout out "This world is BULLSHIT!!" but let's face it, X would probably just set me alight with the dragon lighter. So I persevered. And then something surprising happened... Christina Aguilera performed her new song. And... there were actual musicians on stage. Brass players. And it was... pretty. fucking. awesome. Now, I'm not going to become a fan & start typing shit like *I love Xtina* Because A: It's just undeniably a great song, but it's still one song. and B: I still hate everything that came before this one song. But I have to say, it was one of those showstopping performances that one might expect from Madonna about 15 years ago, Janet Jackson 10 years ago... Good job. dammit.
